Results from Kyu Grades Competition

Saturday 20 April 2013

Once again we sent a junior squad over to the Kyu Grades Championships in Prestatyn.  This is a great competition for gaining some experience and our kids did us proud.  Also joining us was a small contingent from the Manchester University club.

Our squad was made up of Holly, Jakub, Jonah, Aoife, Tom, Joe, Ellie, Paul, Myla and Zac.  They all showed great spirit throughout the day.  The university were well represented by Victoria, Vanessa, Alexandra and Josh.

Aoife did fantastic to reach the pee wee kata finals, taking 3rd place.  Jonah did the same in the 12 - 15 yrs kata.  Joe came 2nd in the pee wee ippon kumite.  In the boy's individual kumite 12- 15 yrs under 5ft 3in, Jakub came away with 2nd place and Jonah took 3rd place.

We also entered a kata team into the mixed age team kata event.  Our team, made up of Jonah, Joe and Ellie, was the youngest by far so it was a huge achievement for them to reach the semi-finals and only narrowly miss out on a place in the finals, from an event with 20 teams entered in total.  This was also the first time our team had performed together.

The Uni also brought home some trophies:  Victoria fought brilliantly to win the ladies kumite event and Josh was narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the mens ippon kumite event.

Well done to everyone!
