KUGB Northern Region Champs 2011 - Results

Saturday 29 October 2011

The 2011 KUGB Northern Region Championships were held at the City Space, University of Sunderland on Saturday 29th October.

A small contingent (Matt, Tracey, Holly, Thomas and Ellie) travelled up on the Friday evening and yippee doo - Matt was slaughtered at bowling by his big sis - not once, but twice!!!!  The kids also enjoyed it. A quiet evening in the hotel bar ensued later when Ian, Charlie, Nigel and Connor arrived.

On Saturday morning, other club members joined us at the venue - Sayuri, Emma, Christina, Erica (Kiki) and Mike.

Well done to Christina who won the senior female kata after a nail-biting final.  Having tied for first place with Gojushiho Sho, Christina went again with Gojushiho Dai to take gold.

Sayuri, Emma and Christina decided to enter Adult Team Kata and, after a couple of weeks practice, managed a very respectable 2nd place against a strong Ashington team with their performance of Jiin.  So - this team is looking good for Nationals next year.

Charlie surprised herself more than anyone else by winning a bronze medal in the Senior Female Kumite - her first entry in this event.  Fantastic!

Christina, Emma, Charlie and Kiki took bronze medals in the Ladies Team Kumite, losing to a very strong Leeds team who were to win the event.

The men did not fare as well this time around, with Matt, Ian and Mike losing in the Mens Team Kumite to Leeds C who finished second.

No successes to record for the younger members of our squad but Thomas did well in the Ippon Kumite to get to the last eight, narrowly missing out on a medal.

Well done to everyone who took part!
